This is one area where you should always be a little skeptical, and that’s a good thing.
The first thing to understand is this. Natural gemstones are not perfect. If a stone looks too flawless, too symmetrical, too clean, that’s usually a red flag. Lab-made stones are designed to look ideal. Nature doesn’t work like that.
Natural gemstones often have internal features. You might see fine lines, mesh-like patterns, tiny clouds, or inclusions. Some stones even contain natural fragments like mineral traces or organic material. These aren’t defects. In many cases, they actually increase the value.
Perfect clarity is rare in nature. Slight irregularities are normal.
Another thing to look at is cut symmetry. Natural stones can be slightly asymmetrical. Facets may not be mirror-perfect. That doesn’t reduce authenticity. It usually supports it.
Weight and feel matter too. Natural gemstones often feel denser than glass or cheap imitations. They don’t feel hollow or light.
Certification is important, but not everything. A lab report helps confirm origin and treatment, but knowing how a stone looks and behaves is equally important.
Finally, trust the source. A genuine seller will talk openly about inclusions, treatments, and origin. If someone avoids details or promises unrealistic perfection, walk away.
At Kalyan Gems, we deal only in natural gemstones and we don’t hide their character. What you see is what nature created.
